Based out of Vancouver and self taught, Canadian artist Gordon Scott has spent the last ten years creating a diverse portfolio.
“My work can often be seen as a bit of a juxtaposition. Sometimes my mood requires pops of colour and unpredictability that painting glass panels affords. Every now and again I need the zen-like calmness I feel when working on monochrome ballpoint pieces, and I most often crave the challenge of conceiving precise hyperrealist graphite illustrations. What all my work has in common is my desire to render intense contrast.
My ultimate desire is to create pieces for the viewer that not only please them visually, but also have the ability to hold their attention. I want the observer to see something different every time. My wish is for the final piece to be just obscure enough to command a room.”
Currently much of Gordon’s time is dedicated to producing large-scale graphite pencil hyperrealism, while also taking efforts to stay true to the backpainted glass technique that inspired his return to the art world.
